Abel Tasman National Park

For our first trip to the south island, we picked a one of the great walks, the Abel Tasman Costal Track. A wonderful multi day hike, going through coastal native forest, secluded bays and along golden beaches.

As we had to get from Picton to Marahau first, we got lucky and were driving through the heavy rainfalls in the morning. As sun as we arrived, the clouds were gone and the sun came out. We were quite lucky with the weather over the next 3 days as well.

We started the track in Marahau and spent the first night in Anchorage Bay on the campsite. Our second stop was in Bark Bay, and the last day was a shorter hike to Onetahuti Bay. There we spend the night and the morning at the beach, till a water taxi came and brought us back to Marahau. We made about 30 km in 3 days on the track, and getting back by boat took 20 min. After 4 days in the bush, living mainly on trail mix and oat meal, we had to go and eat a burger at the fat tui.
