One of our sunday strolls led us to Mount Kaukau. Together with Pricilla, Reece and Roderick; Mary and I hiked up the hills. Mount Kaukau is the most visible high point in the Wellington landscape and offers an awesome view over Wellington and the bay.
The Mount Kaukau summit is part of the so called Northern Walkway which is about 16 km long in total. Several tracks lead to the summit and we started at the Khandallah swimming pool parking lot. From there it is a 40 minute, fairly steep walk up to the summit. For details on the location, check out the map at the end of this post or head over to the website of Wellington City Council for more info.
